My Position

Before there are any misunderstandings on my position, any claims that I believe something, which I do not, I clearly submit my views below.

"Free Thinker"
First and foremost, I refuse to label myself under any ideological category except "free thinker." And even here I refuse to be categorized under anyone else's definition of "free thinker." The definition, which I accept for myself: Free thinker - "one who holds views developed independently, or to the highest possible degree completely free from external influence." (Of course, the pure form of this might not even be possible. Even the freest thinker is influenced to some degree by his/her environment.) By this definition someone who has come to believe in the existence of God(s) by his/her own independent, uninfluenced thinking is more of a free thinker than someone who is atheist simply because he/she was raised to be atheist. My views may contain elements of this or that belief system, but that is coincidental and inevitable. A viewpoint, which hasn't already been expressed by somebody somewhere doesn't exist.

The Existence of God(s) and The Supernatural
I can neither come to the conclusion that God(s) exists nor that God(s) doesn't exist. My only options are to reach a false conclusion or to continue questioning. I choose the latter. My position is the same for all similar "supernatural" phenomena, such as the soul or spirit, rebirth, etc. I've been told that I am a "fence-sitter" on more than one occasion. I once questioned a professor on his atheism. (A dictionary definition of atheism - Disbelief in the existence of God [Gk. atheos, godless]) When I told him that I refuse to make a statement either way, he said, "That's not a very interesting answer. Why don't you come off the fence?" My reply was, "My concern is not in what is interesting, but in what is true." On another occasion, a Mormon stopped me on the street during his proselytizing rounds. Unless I'm in a hurry, I'm usually game to get into it with anyone who keeps the discussion civil. At one point in the discussion, he said, "I know I'm going to heaven." I countered by saying, "No, you think you know." He replied back, "No, I know it," and the conversation continued like that. It was like talking to a brick wall.
